Sevnica is a charming medieval town on the banks of the Sava River in central Slovenia. It is not interesting solely because of being a home-town of the America's First Lady Melania Trump, but also because there are so many interesting things to see and do. In this small town, with around 4,500 residents only, stands one of the most important and best preserved medieval castles in Slovenia - Sevnica Castle (Grad Sevnica). In the castle wine cellar you can enjoy a glass of the selected local wine. Sevnica and its surroundings are particularly known for its Blaufränkisch, cultivated on the southern slope of the castle hill.
Recently local residents presented a range of products calling them “The First Lady” which were made in honour of the former resident and today’s first lady of the United States, Melania Trump. The First Lady collection also includes a new red wine pressed from Blaufränkisch grapes (native to eastern Slovenia), salami made from a rare breed of local pig, white chocolate mousse cake with gold decoration, chocolates and even beauty creams.
Through Sevnica used to run an important Roman trade route which is evident also in an nearby archaeological park Ajdovski gradec - settlement from the late antique and early Christian discovered in 1811.
Best known hill around Sevnica is 948 meters high Lisca and is also accessible by car. A major local lingerie manufacturer was named after the hill.
