Explore the Slovenian coast in one day. We begin with a stop at Socerb Castle where there is a fine panoramic view of the coast. We continue with a visit to the picturesque town of Piran, the most beautiful city on the coast, which lies on a narrow peninsula, and then drive to fashionable Portoroz, with its typical Mediterranean Riviera. In summer we can visit the Soline Nature Park, one of the most important cultural sites in Slovenia.
Here the salt-rich soil has created wetlands, which provide ideal living conditions for many plants and animals, including the smallest mammal in the world, the Etruscan Shrew. After a wander along the shore we conclude with a walk around the main square in Koper with its well-reserved Venetian architecture.
After lunch follows a panoramic drive, overlooking the entire coastline, towards Hrastovlje, famous for its Romanesque church of the Holy Trinity. The church is known for its frescoes from the 15th century - the most remarkable among them is the Danse Macabre that illustrates the powerlessness of both poor and rich before Death.
In summer, we finish the trip with a visit to Rakov Škocjan, a first-class marvel of nature. On a short walk we explore the beautiful gorge of Rak with two natural bridges, created by water. Unlike the famous karst caves, it is a rarely visited limestone piece of paradise that we usually keep for ourselves.
